I HATE TOM HANKS
What is going on with the world? The government is shutdown,
I’m sick and Paddington 2 is 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I don’t understand… Paddington
2?!? Anyways, I have been sick this week so it’s been kind of hard to go see
movies lately with snot pouring out of my nose. With some heavy medicating and armed
with 5 folded up tissues in my back pocket I was able to go see The Post in the
theaters on Saturday. I also finally got to watch Happy Death Day so I’ll cover
that as well.
Do you ever have that one actor/actress where there is just
something about them that bothers you? Maybe you hated one of their characters
and so it’s made you hate them in everything? Maybe they remind you of someone
you don’t like? Or maybe there isn’t a reason but you just don’t like them. For
me, that person is Tom Hanks. *braces for
reaction of “*gasp*, you don’t like Tom Hanks?! But what about ‘Forrest Gump’?!
Why don’t you like Tom Hanks? What has he done to you?”* I know, I know…
but let me explain a little bit. In the winter months when it would be raining
during P.E. they would lock us kids up in a cold, dark room and put on a movie.
It was supposed to be fun but we only had 3 movies to choose from: The Sandlot
(which I love for the record), Rudy, and Big. I don’t know why but it seemed
like every damn time it would rain they made us watch Big. It got to a point to
where it was no longer consensual, I was being forced to watch this movie
because we couldn’t be outside. Every time it rained I knew it was coming… why
can’t we watch Sandlot today?? I’ll even watch Rudy! Why is it always Big?! Now
I’m not hating on all his movies, I like most of them. I just don’t like him.
After all that his voice is jarring to my ears and it just bugs me hearing it. I’m
sorry to admit it but I HATE TOM HANKS.
Now here’s what I thought of The Post:
The Post (RT 88%)
Cut to the chase: A period piece about The Washington Post newspaper
competing with The New York Times and the government to expose top secret
documents about the Vietnam war (AKA: The Pentagon Papers) in the early 70’s.
I had really high hopes for this movie but ultimately, I
would say it’s a bit overrated. Everybody is talking about how it will be
nominated for Oscars and such but I don’t know that it’s really “Oscar worthy”.
I know there is a 98% chance that it will be nominated for at least one
considering it is a Spielberg movie with Meryl Streep (who gave a wonderful
performance) and Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks aside, I thought it was really boring… there
wasn’t much suspense, the stakes weren’t set very high and the story didn’t
really interest me at all. Maybe if I lived thru that period of time I might
feel differently but I felt really bored the entire film. I’m glad I saw it and
did enjoy the acting; I love me some Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks didn’t annoy me
that much. There was just nothing memorable about it. I think there are lots of
other movies that came out this year that are a lot better than The Post. But that’s
just my opinion…
Cut to the chase: It’s basically like the movie Groundhog Day
if it was a slasher flick.
This movie came out right when we were moving into our new
place and we had no free weekends to go out and see it so I’ve been waiting for
it to get released on DVD. A rating of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes for a horror film
is really good. I thought it was a good modern horror film, it felt like a blend
of Butterfly Effect mixed with Groundhog Day.
The main character’s name is Tree… I kept thinking I was
hearing it wrong and it was like Therese or something like that but after
looking on IMBD it is in fact Tree. So, this chick Tree is basically a horrible
person. She’s a sorority girl in college and basically a bitch to everyone she
comes into contact with. At the start of the movie she is waking up from a one
night stand with a guy who she is a total asshole to. As she goes about her day
we learn that it is her birthday. Towards the end of the day she ends up dying
and then wakes up and repeats the whole day over again. In the end, she has to
figure out why she is being made to live through that day over and over again
and more importantly find out who keeps killing her.
It seems like that would be a repetitive movie to watch but
it never felt that way to me. It’s worth watching even if you’re not into
horror movies. It isn’t very scary and the gore is more funny than realistic. The
film used a lot of jump scares but you pretty much saw them all coming. If you’re
looking for a humorous horror film to watch then this is definitely worth
checking out.
That’s it, I am going to go back to playing Mario Odyssey
and pray I will feel better on Monday. Au revoir!
